This building opened as Sam Houston High School in 1963 and became Hutcheson Junior High in 1970. Named for Guy C. Hutceson, the radio operator for Admiral Byrd's scientific expedition to Antarctica in the 1930s and later a devoted member of the AISD Board of Trustees for two decades. Hutcheson JH has played a significant role in educating generations of Arlington students. Though this building will come down, the legacy and impact of Hutcheson will live on. To uphold its memory, the AISD is preserving the school's memorabilia.
